Another week in the life of Donald Trump, leader of my former party, the GOP.

Just this week, October 13-20, 2024

  • Said he was the “father of IVF.” IVF was introduced in the late 1970’s.
  • Said “…Harvey Wienstein got schlonged…” Harvey is a serial sexual assailant with multiple convictions.
  • Had a serial sexual assailant and bankrupt former NFL player speak at his rally in Latrobe, PA. Birds of a feather, no doubt.
  • Stood on a stage and swayed back and forth for 39 minutes playing music during a “Q&A town hall.”
  • Abandoned and stranded his followers in Coachella, CA, (the desert) for many hours, some of whom had to walk nearly 5 miles back to their cars.
  • Recounted a story about a locker room shower and Arnold Palmer’s large penis size. Arnold Palmer, according to his family, was a life-long democrat and was repulsed by Trump.
  • Referred to the violent mob that attacked the capitol as “WE” and the capitol police as “THEM.”
  • Mocked Amber Thruman’s  family, who was holding a competing rally to bring awareness about Amber’s death, saying “…we’ll get better ratings.”
  • There was no talk about any policy, other than the usual tariff, tariff, tariff talk…now as high as 2000%.
  • Asked why didn’t Lincoln “settle the civil war.”
This man can never be president again.

About a month ago a family we know lost a child. This young man was a model citizen, student, and family member. His short life was filled with success and his future filled with so much promise. While I don’t know the family very well, I think about them often. Losing a child comes with an automatic enrollment into a club no one wants to be a part of. The GOP’s odd and new stance on abortion.

For all 51 years of my life the Republican platform included as its core value, life begins at conception. The fight to end Roe v. Wade has/had been going on for as long as I have been alive. Because of this core value, Republicans have stood strong as the “pro-life,” party with no exceptions. In the past, Donald Trump has said about abortion in an overturned Row world “there has to be punishment for the woman.” But after Florida passed their 6 week abortion ban, he criticized Governor Desantis calling it “a terrible mistake.” Trump has recently said of the Florida law that, “6 weeks is too short.” Huh? The leader of the “pro-life” Republican party is now “pro-choice?” JD Vance has stated and written on multiple occasions that he wants a national ban on abortion. In fact, his former public statements on abortion allow for no exceptions.
