The GOP hates Trump

This is a small list of truths and/or public statements some of today’s most prominent GOP members have made:

“If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it.”

- Lindsey Graham (R), US Senator, South Carolina

“He’s a race baiting xenophobic religious bigot, who doesn’t represent my party, who doesn’t represent the values that the men and women that wear the uniform are fighting for.”

- Lindsey Graham (R), US Senator, South Carolina

“Fellow Christians, everyone is watching us when we apologize for this man. Lord help us.” JD Vance (R), Vice Presidential Candidate and US Senator, Ohio

"I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler,"

- JD Vance (R), Vice Presidential Candidate and US Senator, Ohio

“Donald Trump is a “morally reprehensible human being.”

- JD Vance (R), Vice Presidential Candidate and US Senator, Ohio

“What Trump offers is an easy escape from the pain. To every complex problem, he promises a simple solution. He can bring jobs back simply by punishing offshoring companies into submission. As he told a New Hampshire crowd—folks all too familiar with the opioid scourge—he can cure the addiction epidemic by building a Mexican wall and keeping the cartels out. He will spare the United States from humiliation and military defeat with indiscriminate bombing. It doesn’t matter that no credible military leader has endorsed his plan. He never offers details for how these plans will work, because he can’t.”

- JD Vance (R), Vice Presidential Candidate and US Senator, Ohio

“…Trump’s promises are the needle in America’s collective vein. Trump is cultural heroin. He makes some feel better for a bit. But he cannot fix what ails them, and one day they’ll realize it…”

- JD Vance (R), Vice Presidential Candidate and US Senator, Ohio

“Trump makes people I care about afraid. Immigrants, Muslims, etc. Because of this I find him reprehensible. God wants better of us…”

- JD Vance (R), Vice Presidential Candidate and US Senator, Ohio

Comments about Donald Trump: “despicable human being,” “stupid,” and “ill-tempered.”

“I think I’m pretty safe in saying it’s not just the Democrats who are counting the days until he [Donald Trump] leaves on January 20, but the Republicans as well.”

- Mitch McConnell (R), US Senator, Kentucky

“I’m gonna tell you what I really think of Donald Trump: This man is a pathological liar. He doesn’t know the difference between truth and lies. He lies practically every word that comes out of his mouth, and in a pattern that I think is straight out of a psychology textbook, his response is to accuse everybody else of lying.”

- Ted Cruz (R), US Senator, Texas

"He [Trump] is a con artist," Rubio said. "He runs on this idea he is fighting for the little guy, but he has spent his entire career sticking it to the little guy — his entire career."

- Marco Rubio (R), US Senator, Florida

“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people - does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us.”

- General James Mattis (R), Donald Trump’s former Secretary of Defense

“I think he’s [Donald Trump] unfit for office…He puts himself before country. His actions are all about him and not about the country. And then of course, I beleive he has integrity and character issues as well.”

- Mark Esper (R) Donald Trump’s second former Secretary of Defense

“Trump is unfit to be president…Trump really cares only about retribution for himself.”

- John Bolton (R) Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor
